Oz alternative music in the early 80's podcast
The current issue of literary magazine Meanjin is devoted to writing about the Australian independent music scene. The inner city sound – a cultural phenomenon which grew and flourished in our three bigger cities from around 1977 to the end of the 80s, and then burned itself out.
Published under the title, 'All Yesterday's Parties', the writing in this edition of Meanjin is decidedly elegiac in tone.
Highlights of this edition include Clinton Walker grappling with the origins of Oz Rock; Steve Kilbey on Grant McLennan; and a songwriters notebook with raw early drafts of lyrics from The Triffids' 'Wide Open Road', Sky Hooks' 'You Only Like Me Cos I'm Good in Bed' and Paul Kelly's 'How To Make Gravy'.
Meanjin editor Mark Mordue and contributor Clinton Walker spoke with Ramona Koval on Radio National's The Bookshow.
